DnM : Hey Adam, thanks for meeting me tonight.
Adam Snow : No problem, I’m glad to do it.
DnM : Whether intentional or not, I like to conduct an interview by recapping the artist’s past/prior work, the present, and then the future.
Adam Snow : Sure, that makes sense.
DnM : What ever happened to Akira? (Your former producing name)
Adam Snow : My producer name changed because it just felt more authentic to use my real name. All the early supporters will know about Akira though, and thats always going to be a part of me, like how Kendrick Lamar has k dot or Jay Z has Hov.
DnM : That’s cool, fairly common with artists. Now, you deleted the soundcloud so I wasn’t able to listen to your older music. With your name change, was there also a genre or style change?
Adam Snow : Yeah, there was a bit of a style change, back then I was mostly doing rap beats, but the new stuff is a lot more fleshed out .
DnM : Before we leave Akira, the name, is it from the anime? I know you have an affinity for all things Japanese.
Adam Snow : I’m getting totally nardwuar’d right now haha.
DnM : hahah, you asked for it…I also like how nardwuar is now a verb.
Adam Snow : No its great, but yea there’s a movie called Akira which was where I got the name. Definitely a must watch.
DnM It’s a fantastic movie. Kanye’s ‘Stronger’ video is actually based off it btw. Which brings me to my next question – I noticed his influence is highly present in your work.
Adam Snow : Kanye is just, the greatest. I learned to make music watching videos of him in the studio. He’s where I get my confidence from. He’s like my dad.
DnM : That’s a really cool way of learning to make music, way more fun than theory.
DnM : 6 tracks in 2 years. Zero of them have you singing. When we do we get to hear your off-pitchness? In Kanye West’s Summer of Dreams style?
Adam Snow : Probably never haha, unless I get famous enough for someone to hack my computer. However, I just met some girls I might have sing some references for me.
DnM : That be cool man, I’d love to hear more music from you.
Adam Snow : There’s some new stuff coming real soon. But yea, Kanye West.
DnM : Can we release a teaser?
Adam Snow : Sure, p.s. I gave you some unreleased gems in the mix.
DnM Please tell me it the song after International Players Anthem? So Ill.
Adam Snow : That’s the one! It’s something I want to officially put out soon.
DnM Do want.
DnM : So yeah, present music. Let’s talk God VS Thug.
Adam Snow shoot.
DnM : They are polar opposites. In every way, timbre, syncopation, emotion, name. How intentional was all of this? How deep does it go?
Adam Snow : Very true. I was really making music based on how I was feeling at the time and those were made two weeks from each other. After I realized the similarities I actually changed the drums on God to complement thug before I released the final versions.
DnM That’s really cool. Were the emotions pretty lady related?
Adam Snow : Yea, I think most good songs are. Shout-out to all the pretty women in my life though.
DnM : Do you ever combine your two favourite things: Japanese things + Pretty Women? Ie. Pretty Japanese Women?
Adam Snow haha of course! I love all women though, one of the best things about living in the states is the diversity.
DnM : Agreed. I also enjoy women.
DnM: How does that Childish Gambino lyric go? From The Longest Text Message?
“I got so many fucking girls, I can’t even count ’em. There’s probably six or seven girls who think this song’s about ’em.”
Adam Snow : Haha true true.
DnM : Anyway If you could do one drug with one person, past or present, who and what would it be?
Adam Snow : oh man…alright, give me…codeine with drake
DnM : Hahahah, that’s a great one.
Adam Snow : you know it
DnM : haha, alright man. That about does it, thanks for taking the time out
Adam Snow : of course, thanks for having me
